"The Untamed Shrew" ("Scorpia neîmblânzită"), after William Shakespeare, will be performed on 8 October 2026 at 19:00 at the Cluj-Napoca National Theatre, in the Main Hall (Sala Mare). Recommended age: 14+. The performance has English surtitles.
Starting from Maria Manolescu's rewriting of "The Taming of the Shrew", director Leta Popescu builds, within a theatre-in-theatre framework, a space of confrontation between men and women, between classical and contemporary theatre, and between conservative and progressive ideas. The audience sees the story of Katherina and Petruccio in two versions, which answer differently the question of whether "taming" is a ritual of conquest or of "dulling the mind".
