The 10 best coffee shops in Cluj-Napoca
Espresso, filter and flat whites from local roasters: ten specialty coffee shops in Cluj, from Let's Coffee to YUME, with what to order and opening hours.

- Places
- 10 specialty coffee shops and roasteries
- Our pick
- Let's Coffee, Romania's winning café at the European Coffee Trip Awards 2025
- Budget
- around 20 lei for a flat white; under 40 lei per person
- Best time
- weekday mornings; many close at 16:00–18:00
Cluj has been drinking good coffee for more than a decade. Transylvania's first specialty coffee roastery opened here in 2012, and today the city has several roasteries of its own, baristas with national titles and a roaster who finished 7th at the 2026 World Coffee Roasting Championship. You can get filter coffee from beans roasted in town, espresso tonic, cold brew and an oat-milk flat white that actually works. And the best places are, more often than not, small.
For this guide we read the ratings and reviews on Google Maps (checked on 26 September 2026), the European Coffee Trip guide, the local press and what the cafés say about themselves, on their websites and on Instagram. The Google rating is the starting point, not the verdict: we put the coffee in the cup first (where the beans come from, who roasts them, how careful the bar is) and the volume of reviews second. That is why a place with a 4.7 can rank above one with a 5.0.
Under each name you will find the rating, address and opening hours from Google Maps. Prices are those published by the cafés or mentioned in recent reviews, and may change.
1. Let's Coffee: our pick
4.7from 764 Google reviews: 4.7 out of 5 stars
Strada Constantin Daicoviciu 8 on Google Maps
- Monday–Friday
- 7:30–18:00
- Saturday–Sunday
- 8:00–18:00
Ask a local for a really good coffee and chances are they will send you here: that is how many of its reviewers found it. The café on Strada Daicoviciu, a stone's throw from Piața Muzeului, was opened in August 2015 by Vasi and Oana, a family business born of a love of coffee. For years Vasi was a curator, bringing in beans from hand-picked roasters in Romania and abroad. Today Let's Coffee roasts its own, on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the origins change often.
At the European Coffee Trip Awards 2025, run by one of Europe's best-known specialty coffee guides, Let's Coffee was named Romania's winning café. It is recognition for a small place with a handful of tables that has stayed just as focused on what is in the cup.
What to order
- an espresso, to understand why people come here: a former barista with ten years behind the bar wrote that he had probably the best espresso in Romania at Let's
- a flat white, made with whatever is in the grinder that day
- a filter coffee from a rarer lot: on the shelf you will find the likes of Kenya Ruera, Ethiopia's Koke Shalaye or an anaerobic-fermented Maragesha
- cold brew or an iced latte, in summer
- with your coffee, the banana bread, which one customer called “top tier”, or a croissant
The vibe: a small room with lots of wood, and three tables outside. It is better suited to a good coffee and a chat than to an afternoon on a laptop. Children are welcome (they get milk on the house), and so are dogs.
What people praise
- the coffee: “without a doubt the best in town” and “a cut above” the rest of the specialty scene, say the reviews
- the taste of the beans, which change often and are never alike
- the owners and staff, “kind and open”
- the friendly atmosphere, which brings people back every time they pass through Cluj
Good to know
- it is small: there are only three tables outside and you need some luck to get one
- beans are sold by the bag, from 65 lei; rare lots cost more
- budget: 20–40 lei per person, a little above the city average
Why it is number one: it is the only café in town that has it all: coffee roasted in-house, a selection that keeps changing, a large volume of excellent reviews and the title of Romania's winning café at the European Coffee Trip Awards. Ten years on, it is still where locals send you when you ask for “the best coffee in town”.
2. YUME Coffee Roasters: roasting in plain sight

Strada Victor Babeș 21 on Google Maps

YUME (Japanese for “dream”) is one of the roasteries that launched specialty coffee in Cluj. Founded by Mihai Sumedre and Răzvan Roșu, it has been roasting coffees from Ethiopia, Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras and Peru for more than a decade, and its beans also turn up in other cafés and restaurants around town, from Pasquale to neighbourhood coffee shops. The base on Strada Emil Petrovici 16 is more of a shop with the roaster right there in the room: you grab a takeaway coffee, breathe in the fresh beans and leave with a bag for home.
If you want to sit down, head to the YUME café on Strada Victor Babeș: spacious and quiet, with the same coffees and food made from local ingredients.
What to order
- a flat white, oat milk included, which “not everyone gets right”, but they do here
- an espresso from the Daydreamer's Blend, a YUME blend recommended by customers who drink it at home too
- a hot focaccia sandwich, praised in several reviews
- the pistachio croissant, with pastry cream made in-house
- the coffee tiramisu, which one customer called “probably the best in town”
The vibe: on Victor Babeș, a large, quiet room with relaxing music and high tables, good for a meeting or an hour of work. Pets are welcome. On Emil Petrovici it is all about the coffee: a small space, the smell of freshly roasted beans and people who know exactly what they are selling you.
What people praise
- the coffee, “on another level”, roasted and ground on site
- the fact that you can recreate it at home: the beans bought here taste the same
- the food on Victor Babeș, made from local ingredients
- the staff, who “know their stuff and are helpful”
Good to know
- the roastery on Emil Petrovici 16 (4.9 on Google, from 515 reviews) is open Monday to Friday, 7:30–17:00, and is takeaway only
- the café on Victor Babeș is closed on Sundays
- the high tables are not very comfortable for small children
- budget: 20–40 lei per person
3. Olivo Culture: coffee from the world's 7th-best roaster, on Eroilor

Bulevardul Eroilor 49 on Google Maps
- Monday–Friday
- 7:30–17:30
- Saturday–Sunday
- 9:00–18:00
At the end of Bulevardul Eroilor, towards Piața Avram Iancu, stands one of the most beautiful cafés in Cluj. It opened in late 2016 as Narcoffee Roasters, and since 1 January 2024 it has been part of the Olivo Coffee Culture family, the Cluj roastery founded in 2012, the first specialty coffee roastery in Transylvania.
The man behind the coffee is Marius Nica, a multiple national champion in latte art and cup tasting and Olivo's CEO. In June 2026, in Brussels, he finished 7th at the World Coffee Roasting Championship. The coffee you drink here comes from the Olivo roastery.
What to order
- a cortado or an oat-milk flat white, the most-ordered drinks, according to Google
- an iced latte (21 lei, according to a customer this summer) or one of the seasonal drinks; this summer the menu brought combinations with matcha and fruit
- a long black, if you want to taste the coffee without milk
- with your coffee, the banana bread (“the best I've ever had”, someone wrote) or the lemon poppy seed cake
The vibe: a beautiful space, with feel-good messages scattered around the café and good energy from the moment you walk in. You can work on a laptop, and the staff are friendly and quick.
What people praise
- the coffee: “coffee masters” and “my favourite coffee place in Cluj”, for taste and looks alike
- the cakes, fresh and not too sweet
- the kind staff and the energy of the place
Good to know
- Olivo has several cafés in town, including Olivo Coffee Culture on Strada Octavian Petrovici 7 and Olivo Bistro, on Eroilor 7
- the roastery also runs barista courses, for enthusiasts and professionals
- budget: around 20 lei for a coffee
4. Cofeels: coffee with a heart, on Șincai
5.0from 1,821 Google reviews: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Strada Gheorghe Șincai 9 on Google Maps
- Monday–Friday
- 8:00–16:00
- Saturday–Sunday
- 9:00–16:00
A 5.0 from more than 1,800 reviews: no other café on this list has a rating that high from that many opinions. Cofeels is Transylvania's first social café, opened in the summer of 2021 by Lucian Butnaru, himself born with a visual impairment, to create jobs for people with disabilities. 90% of the profit goes to that cause, and a year after it opened Google gave it a “Golden Review” award.
But people don't come only for the story. The house coffee, Seaside, is a blend of Heirloom beans from the Limu region of Ethiopia and Castillo and Caturra from Tolima, in Colombia, roasted in Romania, with notes of chocolate and dried fruit. One customer who described himself as a “coffee snob” wrote that he would give it six stars if he could.
What to order
- a cappuccino or a flat white made with the Seaside blend, balanced and low in acidity
- an iced latte, in summer
- masala chai, which reviews describe as “a burst of flavours”
- the chamomile lemonade, if you want something caffeine-free
- alongside, the house burnt cheesecake or the banana bread
The vibe: small, warm and quiet, on a sheltered street a few minutes from Piața Unirii. It has fast Wi-Fi and is one of the best places in the centre for a working morning. Lucian is often behind the bar, and the staff speak English.
What people praise
- the coffee, “a delight”
- Lucian, “incredibly kind” and passionate about coffee
- the mission: you know every order helps someone
- the homemade cakes and the fast Wi-Fi
Good to know
- it closes at 16:00, weekends included
- the Seaside blend is sold by the bag, in the café and on cofeels.ro
- budget: under 20 lei per person, among the most affordable on the list
5. Meron Gallery: the roastery with exhibitions, on Horea
4.6from 550 Google reviews: 4.6 out of 5 stars
- Monday–Friday
- 7:00–18:30
- Saturday
- 9:00–17:00
- Sunday
- 10:00–17:00
Meron (Greek for “days”) started in 2015, on Strada Napoca, and has grown into a chain of more than ten cafés in Cluj. Its heart beats at Horea 5: this is where the Meron roastery, opened in 2019, sits alongside Meron Gallery, a café that is also an art gallery. The beans come directly from family farms in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Brazil, Guatemala, Panama, El Salvador and Costa Rica, and the origins change every month.
In 2025, Meron Gallery made the top ten specialty cafés in Romania at the European Coffee Trip Awards, alongside Let's Coffee and Olivo.
What to order
- a filter coffee from the origin of the month: Meron's menus have a “Classic Brew” and an “Exceptional Brew”, for rarer lots
- a cappuccino or a flat white, which reviews call “splendid”
- something more unusual from Meron's menus: espresso tonic or cold brew with ginger beer
- with your coffee, the pistachio cookie, “the best I've tasted so far”, according to one customer
The vibe: spacious, with art exhibitions on the walls. You can drink your coffee looking at the paintings, and the staff are quick and kind. Good for a meeting, or for anyone who wants a close look at the place the beans leave from on their way to every Meron café.
What people praise
- the coffee, “brilliant”
- the mix of café and gallery, rare in town
- the large space and the quick service
Good to know
- it costs more than other Merons: a cappuccino is over 20 lei, says a customer this summer
- the first Meron café, on Napoca 3 (4.7 on Google, from 1,764 reviews), is open until 20:00 every day
- budget: 20–40 lei per person
6. Brewtiful: single origins and handmade cups, on Baba Novac
4.8from 392 Google reviews: 4.8 out of 5 stars
Strada Baba Novac 13 on Google Maps
- Monday–Friday
- 7:00–17:00
- Saturday–Sunday
- 9:00–16:00
A café in the centre run, customers say, by two brothers, serving single-origin coffee only, from high-altitude farmers in Africa and South America. Their enthusiasm is the first thing reviews mention, right after the coffee.
What to order
- a flat white made with an Ethiopian or Colombian coffee, the most praised in reviews
- a piccolo latte or an espresso macchiato, for a shorter coffee
- the hot chocolate, with 72% cocoa from Côte d'Ivoire, if you don't drink coffee

The vibe: a spacious café with natural light, handmade cups and a small inner courtyard, “a cosy nook between buildings”. It works just as well for a coffee for two as for an hour on a laptop.
What people praise
- the coffee: for some, “the best specialty coffee in Cluj”
- the ceramic cups, made by hand
- the large space, the courtyard and the friendly staff
Good to know
- some customers find the roast on the dark side: if you prefer lighter coffees, ask what origin is in the grinder

Strada Gheorghe Șincai 3 on Google Maps
- Monday–Friday
- 7:00–16:00
- Saturday
- 10:30–14:30
- Sunday
- closed
A few steps from Cofeels, Ibric is a small café with a colourful look, the result of a successful rebrand, and one of the best ratings in the centre. Many people pick up their cappuccino here on the way to work or to class, and in the afternoon it fills up with students. It is also, according to some customers, the place for the best matcha latte in town.
What to order
- a cappuccino, which customers describe as “very well balanced”
- a strawberry matcha latte, the drink that made the place's name (“life-changing”, someone wrote)
- an iced matcha latte, “not too bitter”, or a cold brew tonic, in summer
- alongside, a cake from the counter: the pastries are praised almost as often as the drinks
The vibe: relaxed, young and tasteful, with bright colours and friendly baristas. More a quick stop than a place to linger for hours.
What people praise
- the coffee, “spectacular”, and the matcha

Strada Donath 118 on Google Maps
- Monday–Friday
- 8:00–16:00
- Saturday–Sunday
- 10:00–15:00
The most unusual café on the list is a 1986 Volkswagen T3 van, turned into a coffee bar and parked in the garden of a house on Strada Donath, in the Grigorescu district. The people at ROAdSTED serve only fully traceable specialty coffee (farm, altitude, processing, harvest period), with Pressco, a Cluj roastery, as their main partner. The van also goes out to weddings, festivals and events.
What to order
- a V60, on weekdays; at weekends, when it gets busy, filter coffee comes as batch brew
- an espresso or a cappuccino, “very well extracted and aromatic”
- matcha, for a change
- the juices from the Steluța farm, in summer, and the carrot cake, “perfectly moist”, according to one customer

What people praise
- the coffee, “without a doubt, the strong point”
- the garden, friendly to children and pets
- the concept, “long awaited in Grigo”, and the welcoming team
Good to know

9. Hot Pipes: the roastery for coffee and car lovers

Strada Cireșilor 84 on Google Maps
- Monday–Friday
- 7:30–16:30
- Saturday–Sunday
- 9:00–16:00
Hot Pipes was started in 2017 by Doru, Cristi and a group of friends with two shared passions: specialty coffee and fast cars. They kept both, but in the café on Strada Cireșilor the star is the roaster: the coffee is roasted right there, and the smell greets you at the door.

- a cappuccino or a cortado
- a barley latte, if you want something caffeine-free
- to take home: 250 g bags of beans, from 70 lei (Rwanda Ruronzi) to 120 lei for the limited Colombian lots

What people praise
- the selection of beans, “properly roasted”
- the smell of freshly roasted coffee, right in the café
- the staff, kind and always smiling
Good to know
- it is outside the centre, handy if you are staying nearby or come by car
- if you like your milk coffee properly hot, say so when you order: one customer complained of a lukewarm cappuccino
- budget: 20–40 lei per person
10. Bârlogul de cafea: a terrace with a view over the city, in Zorilor
4.8from 317 Google reviews: 4.8 out of 5 stars
Strada Augustin Presecan 13 on Google Maps

A café tucked away in a residential part of the Zorilor district, reached through a gate and up a few steps, which rewards you with a terrace overlooking the city. The name means “the coffee den”. It is small, with a small team, and after a break it has reopened, to the delight of its regulars.

- a cappuccino made with a Colombian coffee, “perfectly done”, according to one customer
- a double espresso, with “a complex, well-balanced aroma”
- a flat white (20 lei, according to a review from last year)
The vibe: a den, as the name says: small, warm, with good music, cups a little different from the usual and the terrace with a view, the best spot for the first coffee of the day. The long opening hours make it a good option in the afternoon too, when most cafés on this list have closed.

- the quick, friendly service, the music and the atmosphere
Good to know
- the entrance is discreet: look for the gate and the stairs
