The International Conference for the Study of the Novel. 4th Edition: The Novel in an Unequal World

The fourth edition of the International Conference for the Study of the Novel takes place on 13 November 2026, from 10:00, at Strada Emil Racoviță 21 in Cluj-Napoca. The theme of this edition is "The Novel in an Unequal World" and it examines how unequal positions within the world literary system shape the novel, looking at how peripheral and semi-peripheral locations influence literary production, formal repertoires, genre systems, the circulation and canonisation of works, and how novels record, negotiate or contest these asymmetries.

The concept of "periphery" is used not as a vague synonym for marginality or cultural backwardness, but as an analytical category for the historical relations through which literary positions are formed and reformed.
