CARMINA BURANA - Cluj-Napoca

Carl Orff's Carmina Burana is performed on 9 December 2026 at 19:00 at the Casa de Cultură a Studenților in Cluj-Napoca. The performance brings together members of the Symphony Orchestra and the Mixed Choir of the Târgu Mureș State Philharmonic, and the tenor part is sung by Ștefan von Korch, artistic coordinator of the Musical Extravaganza season.

The work, built in 24 tableaux with a circular structure symbolising the power of fate, starts from the famous "O Fortuna" and passes through moments of lyricism, exuberance and humour. Orff turned the tales from a collection of medieval texts into one of the best-known vocal-symphonic works in the world, premiered in 1937.

Ștefan von Korch has been invited to take part in more than 40 productions of Carmina Burana in Romania and abroad, and in 2024 he opened the Palermo Classica Festival with this work. He has sung roles in "I Puritani", "The Barber of Seville", "Rigoletto", "The Elixir of Love" and "Falstaff". He has also performed in concert in Tokyo, Zhuhai, Nanjing, Chongqing, Kaiserslautern, Zaragoza, Palermo, Padua, Zürich and Bratislava.
