The Romanian National Opera Cluj-Napoca presents "Don Carlo" by Giuseppe Verdi, an opera in four acts on a libretto by Achille de Lauzières-Thémines and Angelo Zanardini, after the drama by Friedrich Schiller, on 25 October 2026, from 6:30pm. The conductor is Vladimir Lungu, and the cast includes Petre Burcă (Philip II), Tatiana Lisnic, in her debut, (Elisabeth of Valois), Marius Vlad Budoiu (Don Carlo), Liza Kadelnik (Princess Eboli), Geani Brad (Rodrigo), guest artist Marius Boloș (the Grand Inquisitor), Simonfi Sandor (the Monk), Oana Trîmbițaș (Tebaldo) and Florin Pop (the Count of Lerma and the Royal Herald), together with the Opera's Orchestra and Chorus; the stage direction is by Mihaela Sandu.
Set during the war between France and Spain in the mid-16th century, the plot follows the impossible love story between Don Carlo and Elisabeth of Valois, complicated by her marriage to King Philip II, by the jealousy of Princess Eboli and by the abuse of power of the Grand Inquisitor. The show is performed in Italian, with Romanian surtitles, has three intervals, ends around 10pm and is recommended from the age of 10.
