Belu-Simion Fainaru. The House from Cămărzana – Place of Absence

The Cluj-Napoca Art Museum, an institution under the authority of the Cluj County Council, is organising the exhibition "The House from Cămărzana – Place of Absence" by artist Belu-Simion Fainaru from 9 to 27 September 2026, with the opening on Wednesday, 9 September, at 6:00 pm.

The project starts from the history of a Jewish house in Cămărzana, Satu Mare County, once inhabited by a family deported during the Holocaust and later relocated to Cluj-Napoca, opening up a reflection on memory, belonging and absence, a central theme in Fainaru's artistic practice.

The exhibition also presents works by guest artists Avital Bar-Shay, with her embroidered series "The Boxers", and Or Fainaru, with the video work "Savage State", both exploring the body, vulnerability and violence.

Belu-Simion Fainaru (b. 1959, Romania), who lives between Haifa and Antwerp, has exhibited at documenta 9 Kassel, the Venice Biennale (including as Romania's representative in 2019), and at museums such as the Israel Museum, S.M.A.K. and M HKA; in 2025 he received the Israel Prize for Art, and in 2026 he represents Israel at the Venice Biennale.
